AD+A, Inc.’s architectural design completely converted the historic St. Anthony’s School in the North End neighborhood into twenty-four condominium and cooperative units. This innovative model provides affordable housing using local initiative and creative financing. The design responds to the desire of the community and the Planning Office of Urban Affairs to serve local residents while addressing the demographic changes of gentrification and diminished school enrollment.

The existing turn-of-the-century construction featured many innovations in building techniques such as steel reinforcement and fire-proofed walls. The rehabilitation scheme introduces several new technical and design features while enhancing and preserving architectural integrity. Careful detail was applied to the selection of color, material, furnishings, tile patterns, fixtures, lighting, and in particular, public space.
