The Pedestrian Bridge connects the historic centre of Mestre/Venice to the waterfront development of Parco San Giuliano. The bridge is a landmark and visible symbol of redevelopment of this section of underutilized land.
The cable-stayed bridge is 140 meters long and is supported by a single, central structural element 40 meters high. The structure of the bridge consists of 2 primary steel beams with secondary cross elements and wood decking. A stainless steel perforated metal frame acts as a safety device but allows views of the surrounding landscape. Landscaped earthen ramps and two plazas at each end of the bridge provide a focal point and informational services to pedestrian users. The paving of these plazas are designed with a pattern of concrete and stone strips with inset artistic medallions. The Bridge was completed in 2004 for a total construction cost of $2.5 million.
