As a consultant to URS, AD+A, Inc. designed 14 Silver Line stations as part of the overall reconstruction of the Washington Street Transitway. Each station consists of a 36’ x 12’ station canopy, an information kiosk, benches, and other street furnishings.

The station canopies are 12’ high at their peak and are constructed of pre-fabricated galvanized steel that is sheathed in stainless steel. The underside of the canopy is an elliptical curve that follows the main beam and rests on two stainless steel columns. The interplay of the dark steel ribs with the stainless steel finish panels that undulate beneath the canopy gives the station a dynamic form. Each transit station is demarcated by a 12’ x 60’ paving zone of granite paving, within which is a 4’x6’ steel information kiosk with information panels and an electronic variable message sign. The stations were completed in 2003 for a total cost of $6.5 million.
