Boston 2088 is a futuristic vision that re-orders the city’s infrastructure to liberate new planning and living options. It follows the city’s historic pattern of waterfront development and distinct neighborhoods to create a contemporary New Boston, a city of 120,000 residents on the present airport site. The visionary urban design plan is firmly integrated with adjacent neighborhoods and enhances Boston’s image as a livable and human-scaled environment. Varied neighborhoods revive Boston’s best traditions of social streets and lively centers while celebrating Boston’s maritime legacy and unique setting. Each of the 18 community blocks of New Boston has an individual identity and focuses on a plaza with a transit station, meeting places and public institutions. Organized along a linear park that stretches from East Boston to a restored Apple Island, the neighborhoods are both of a comfortable, pedestrian-friendly scale, and dense enough to support infrastructure costs.
